Trimix Intracavernosal Self-Injection Guide
Step-by-step instructions for safely injecting Trimix into the penis, including preparation, dosage, injection site selection, and safety precautions.
STEP 01:
GATHER SUPPLIES
- Alcohol swabs
- Sterile syringe with needle
- Medication vial (keep in original light-protective container)
- Sharps container for safe disposal
- Rx label with dosage instructions
🧊 If your medication was shipped frozen, allow it to thaw naturally. Do not heat the vial.
STEP 02:
PREPARE YOURSELF
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water, then dry.
- Sit upright or recline slightly in a comfortable position.
- Select your injection site:
- Between the base and mid-shaft of the penis.
- Use the 10 to 2 o’clock areas on either side. Avoid the top, bottom, and visible blood vessels.
- Gently pull the head of the penis to one side.
- Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry completely to avoid stinging.
STEP 03:
PREPARE THE MEDICINE
- Open an alcohol swab and clean the rubber stopper on the vial. Let it air dry.
- Remove the needle cover from the syringe.
- Draw in air equal to your prescribed dose (e.g., 0.2 mL).
- Insert the needle straight into the rubber stopper and inject the air to equalize pressure.
- Turn the vial upside down with the needle still inserted.
- Slowly pull back the plunger to draw up your dose.
- Tap the syringe to remove any air bubbles, then push the plunger to the correct dose.
- Remove the syringe from the vial carefully, without touching the needle.
STEP 04:
ADMINISTER THE MEDICATION
- Grasp the head of the penis and pull it straight out.
- Hold the syringe at a 90-degree angle and inject into the side of the penis with steady pressure.
- Inject medication over about 4 seconds.
- Withdraw the needle gently and immediately apply pressure to the site using an alcohol swab for 1–2 minutes (3–5 minutes if taking aspirin).
- Alternate injection sites each time.
- Safely dispose of the syringe and needle in a sharps container.
⚠️ Important Guidelines
- Only use the dose prescribed by your doctor.
- Limit injections to 3 times per week and space doses at least 24 hours apart.
- If erection lasts longer than 2 hours, take 30 mg pseudoephedrine and apply an ice pack.
- If still erect after 3 hours, contact your doctor or visit the ER immediately.
- Discard vial 28 days after first use or by labeled expiration—whichever is sooner.
Possible Side Effects
- Penile pain
- Bruising or burning at the injection site
- Headache or dizziness
- Prolonged erection (priapism)
- Swelling, curvature, or tenderness—contact your provider if this occurs
Frequently Asked Questions
So…what is compounding?
Most medications are mass-produced. Compounding offers more flexibility—because your formulations can be crafted for you, not the masses.
With compounding, we can customize your medication's ingredients and dosage form (capsules, troches, injections, creams, ointments, suppositories, etc.). We can combine multiple medications, eliminate common allergens, address multiple health concerns with a single formulation, or tailor your dose rather than delivering only rigid, one-size-fits-all options.
Compounding opens up a world of personalized medicine that’s pharmaceutically sound, rigorously regulated, and personal to your needs.
What standards does Strive follow?
Strive’s operating and compounding processes adhere to state and federal regulations, and we also go far above and beyond regulatory standards to ensure quality compounded medications.
This looks like:
- Vetting all of our vendors and pharmaceutical ingredients through a rigorous qualification process.
- Frequently testing active ingredients and finished compounded products via third-party analytical assessment for sterility, potency, and endotoxins.
- Continuous training for all Strive compounding staff to demonstrate full competency and cultivate mastery in their roles.
- A robust internal quality assurance program that regularly monitors and audits processes and procedures.
- Unwavering commitment to sanitizing equipment and facilities, preventing cross-contamination, and maintaining aseptic conditions.
Healthcare is personal to us, meaning we never settle when it comes to formulations, ever-evolving best practices, and compounding standards. Striving for the best isn’t just what we value—it’s who we are. It’s in our DNA and our relentless commitment to quality.
How is Strive different from other pharmacies?
The short answer: We’re a compounding pharmacy that cares about people.
The longer, more impassioned answer: We’re a compounding pharmacy, which means we offer flexibility that most big pharma options simply can’t.
We're different from other pharmacies because healthcare has become an industry machine that sometimes forgets the human element, even though humans are the entire reason healthcare exists. We're striving to fix this imbalance.
When you walk into Strive, you're seen and welcomed as a real person with a real life and unique needs. Instead of seeing numbers, we see people—whole human beings with stories, challenges, and the potential to thrive. Nothing thrills us more than helping people strive for their very best life.
Will insurance cover my compounded medications?
Some insurance companies cover compounded medication, some don't, and others decide on a case-by-case basis. However, compounded medications are frequently cheaper out-of-pocket anyway because insurance companies use a tiered system to determine what and how much they'll cover.
Sometimes, working with your healthcare provider to get a longer day supply for your prescription can also help cut costs. A lot of work goes into compounding medications, so a 60—or 90-day supply is efficient and could save you money in the long run.
We’re happy to help you look at your options!
Does compounding work for children’s medications?
Compounding can make a big difference when it comes to children's medications. It's not fun for anyone when kids have to suffer through medication they hate. At Strive, not only do we take sensitivities and preexisting needs seriously, but we can also affect application method, form, and flavor, so taking medication is a more pleasant experience.
What about pets?
Yes! Your furry family members have sensitivities and preferences just like we do! If they hate their medication, they might spit it out or resist medications, but compounding means we have more options, including making medications taste better or easier to disguise.
